This week in Exploring Music 6 we took off running with our beginning guitar unit! On Monday we learned a little bit about the instrument and had the chance to tune our very own guitar using our new vocabulary words flat and sharp! Ask your student if they remember what each musical term means in terms of tuning the guitar! On Tuesday we focused on our first three notes: E, F and G. We learned about musical notation and that each note has an exact location on the musical staff. We talked about the musical staff like a neighborhood with houses on either line street or space street! We then began to read our very first examples of guitar music! The rest of the week brought opportunities to review and rehearse different examples with partners. On Thursday we had an early release day, but luckily both of the Exploring Music 6 classes were able to meet! We began class with a review game of Around the World to review everything we have learned about the guitar so far. During the second half of class we were introduced to a song called "Spanish Theme Song". Students learned that they would be performing "Spanish Theme Song" as their first performance quiz which will take place on Monday. After a discussion on how students would be graded today (Friday), we had the rest of class to rehearse for the upcoming performance quiz in pairs.
