Happy Friday!
I hope that you are all staying safe and having a little bit of fun in all of this snow we have been getting! :) We had another short week (thanks to snow days) in Exploring Music 6 this week, but we got a solid start on our first unit: world percussion!
This week students learned about the main instrument we will be playing: the conga drums. We learned that we can use two different tones (open and closed) to create high and low sounds on the conga drums. We learned about a certain type of drumming called question and answer drumming and put this into practice by using our voices and our drums to communicate! Students were introduced to a brand new instrument on Friday called a shekere. This instrument is made out of a gourd! By today (Friday) we were playing in a four part percussion ensemble!
I'm so excited to see the students' progress. Check back next week for an update!
