Happy Friday! This week in Exploring Music 6 we were very busy finishing up our guitar unit! We have learned six notes (B, C, D, E, F, and G) and three chords (C, G7, and D7)! We are well on our way to becoming professional players!
Early in the week we began by taking a look at "crossing strings" which means that the students can play notes on two different strings!
We talked about what chords were and why they were important to music. We even watched a fun YouTube video in which a guitar player used the same four chords to play twenty-two different songs! As a class, we discussed how to build a chord and then learned how to effectively build the C, G7 and D7 chords on the guitar, and we learned how to read tab notation. Ask your student what a tab is and what they think is easier: playing individual notes on the guitar or playing chords on the guitar and why!
Wednesday and Thursday we spent some time reviewing all of the information we have learned during this unit and creating a class study guide in preparation for our final playing quiz and written assessment which will take place today (Friday)! I have thoroughly enjoyed working with each of your students and teaching them how to learn a new language and a new instrument! I can't wait to continue our musical journey together! Next up... world percussion!
