I can't believe that it's March already! This term seems to be flying by! This week marked the end of our unit on world percussion and the beginning of our guitar unit! We spent Monday reviewing for the Word of the Day test which took place on Tuesday. Make sure to check ParentPortal for your musician's results!
Wednesday brought a new excitement - beginning guitar! We spent our time together on Wednesday checking out a PowerPoint presentation about different types of guitars, what they look like, what they sound like, and the different parts of the guitar. To see the presentation that we viewed in class, click HERE. We had fun labeling the parts of the guitar on the SmartBoard and even more fun pointing to the parts of the guitar on our very own instruments.
On Thursday, because of the early release, only the 5th period Exploring Music class met. We spent some time reviewing how to read musical notation. We practiced reading some music rhythm reading by matching some names of soda and candies to the musical notation they belonged with. We even did a little bit of matching with ice cream flavors! Check out some pictures of us learning new rhythms below!

Friday was the first day that we really got to dive deep into the guitar unit! We learned three new notes: E, F, and G. We learned how to tune our instruments so that our guitar ensemble sounds good. We learned about different ways to tune a guitar, three new notes (E, F, and G) and we learned how to play these notes on the guitar and where they live on the musical staff, too! Ask your student if they remember the address for each note. Check back next week to see how much more we have explored in our musical journey!
