Happy Friday!
I hope you all enjoyed your vacation and are feeling refreshed, re-energized, and ready to continue our journey of exploring music together! Ifeel like it’s been a while since we’ve updated you about the happenings in room 100! Boy! We’ve sure been busy!
This week we learned a song called “Take Time in Life”, from the country of Liberia, that incorporated movement, clapping, singing, and a six part percussion ensemble! We learned about lyrics and how lyrics help the song have a special meaning. The message of “Take Time in Life” was to slow down and appreciate the small things in life because time passes by so quickly. We also learned the job of being a performer! Even if we aren’t feeling well or having a great day, our job as the performer is to show the audience how much fun we are having by smiling and being energetic in our performance! This was a little bit of a challenge for us, but we got it!

The middle of the week brought our final ensemble to learn! This ensemble is entitled “High Life”. We started off learning this ensemble by just listening to a recording to name all of the instruments that we heard playing. To listen and name the instruments click HERE. We started by learning just the drum parts. This was tricky because each part starts at a different time! Today (Friday) we added some hand held percussion instruments such as the acousti-block, güiro, and the gankogui bell, too! The term is already ticking away quickly! We are going to be wrapping up our world percussion unit on Tuesday with our Word of the Day Test! Students should have brought home the study guide and list of the words today (Friday 2/28). To get another copy click HERE. Be sure to check ParentPortal for those grades on Tuesday afternoon! Up next… guitar!
