This week in Exploring Music 6 we began our final unit on Music Technology! During our unit on Music Technology students will be working individually and in pairs utilizing the Garageband App for the Ipad. Students will complete several projects during this unit.
Students were assigned the first project on Friday of last week and we finished up these projects this week. Students learned about musical form or the structure / pattern of music. Students learned that in music we illustrate patterns by using letters of the alphabet. For each new section of music we give a new letter. Students worked with ABA form. We created ABA patterns using shapes on the SmartBoard, and then we listened to some musical examples to see if we could recognize the ABA pattern just by listening! Students did a great job with this activity!

On Wednesday students were greeted by a worksheet that had slogans and companies. Students had to match the slogan to the company. This was a fun activity to get students thinking about the next Garageband project which is to compose their very own original jingles. After a brief brainstorm on creating a product, students learned how to write effective lyrics to advertise the product that they had created. Students will eventually be required to compose original music and then sing or rap the lyrics they composed to advertise their product, too! I can't wait to hear some of the final projects! Be sure to check back next week for some examples of student work!
