3rd Period
"Ensemble 1"
Happy Friday!
Our world percussion unit has started off with a bang! We have been hard at work in Room100 learning how to play in a four part percussion ensemble! At the beginning of the week we worked with our first piece called "Ensemble 1". This piece featured three conga drum parts, an acousti-block part, a shekere part, and a gankogui part! If you aren't sure what these world instruments are (or how to pronounce them :)) you can check with your 6th grade musician! Students had the opportunity to play in a large ensemble setting as well as a small group ensemble setting to rehearse this piece. Check out the video of us below performing "Ensemble 1"!
During the second half of the week, we focused on our second piece called "Take Time in Life". This song comes from the country of Liberia located in West Africa. Students added singing and movement in this piece along with the percussion instruments we usually work with! We will be finishing up "Take Time in Life" on Monday!
Due to the short week because of the Thanksgiving holiday, check back on Wednesday for next week's blog post! We can't wait to post more pictures and videos of us exploring the musical language!
