We have been busy making music here in Room 100! We are excited to share what we have been learning about with you!
This week we finished up our work with our first song titled, "Ensemble 1". Students were split up into two small groups of about 10 musicians and were challenged to perform "Ensemble 1" with only one or two students per part! This was especially tricky because "Ensemble 1" features 6 different percussion parts: low drum, medium drum, high drum, acousti-block, shekere, and the gankogui. This forced students to work together as a team or ensemble, but to really focus on their own part as well.

By the middle of the week, we started a song called "Take Time in Life" from the country of Liberia in Africa. This song combines movement, singing, and percussion instruments! Ask your student if they remember what the meaning of this song is! Students worked as part of a large ensemble and small ensemble to get each musical part to fit together like a puzzle piece. They did a great job with the final performance of this piece which took place on Thursday! Check out the video below to see the 4th period Exploring Music Class performing "Take Time in Life"!
Today (Friday) we started our final song that we will be learning in our percussion unit. This final piece is called "High Life". Students will be challenged to play some of the parts individually! Next week we will be wrapping up our World Percussion unit. Students will have a two part assessment on Wednesday. Be on the look out for your child to bring the word of the day sheet we have been collecting vocabulary words on! You can download a master list HERE.
